Target Areas in the Golf Fitness Program

Ferraro Functional Fitness offers a Golf Fitness Program with elements of athletic stance, core strength, and equipment analysis. Trainer Clint Bigham is certified through the Titleist Performance Institute.

Your Athletic Stance: The first area targeted in the Golf Fitness Program is the athletic stance. As in other sports like you see in football, basketball, tennis, the athletic stance is the position that creates the most stability. In golf, there is a lot of twisting going on, yet the athletic stance in the beginning of the swing is key. You have to be stable which means that you have to have a strong core, strong feet, and strong legs. Clients practice and work on the correct stance and it can be surprisingly difficult.

Your Core: Think stomach, hips, lower back, glutes – the middle part of your body. You have to have awareness and strength. It doesn’t mean that you have to do a thousand crunches yet you have to strengthen the core and learn about it. You will learn about the tiny muscles that hold your gut, about your lower back and your glutes and how they all work together.

Your Equipment: Along with a strong stance and core, golf equipment is a key element for optimal performance. A big difference between an amateur golfer and a professional golfer may be that their clubs aren’t custom fit to how they’re playing, how they’re built, how their posture is. There is sure to be a better result if an amateur golfer were to get custom fitted golf clubs to their posture, etc. and it can make the difference in their golf game.
